STEPHENSON WINS WCSS AT VERNON MOTOPLEX
| | |
Fast Qualifier: Kalvin Loudoun 18.999
- A Heat: Matt Stephenson, Kalvin Loudoun, Don Nickel
- B Heat: Matt Stephenson, Kalvin Loudoun, Kevin Van Kalkeren
- Feature: Matt Stepenson, Kalvin Loudoun, Don Nickel
It was a great day of racing for the WCSS sportsman series!
Race number 2 was a hard fought battle between WCSS regulars. The feature event has the "67
of Jeff Cameron taking the field to green, with 2009 Rookie of the year Sarah Cornett-Ching on the high side. 2010 Rookie competitor Kevin Van Kalkeren
2nd row back with Don Nickel on the high side. Dustin Lengert, Matt Stephenson, and Kalvin Loudoun raced hard into the first turn. The battle between
Cornett-Ching and Jeff Cameron kept the field tight in the early laps. Stephenson with pressure from Loudoun and Lengert, began working the field.
Stephenson passed the #67 of Cameron for the lead bringing Loudon with him.
The game of cat and mouse begins between Loudoun and Stephenson. Lengert and
Nickel are racing hard for the third spot. A mid-race caution tightens the field, allowing Lengert to find 2nd place on the green into turn one. Van
Kalkeren and Nickel battle for the next two spots. Lap 40 brings the second caution as Cornett-Ching spins off of two and re-gathers the car. The caution
tightens the field with Stephenson on the point, Lengert outside and Loudoun inside row 2. As the green flies, Loudoun keeps tight to the #1 car of
Stephenson, forcing Lengert into third spot. The battle heats up as the top 3 cars fight for the chequered. Off four the field is side by side forcing
Lengert low. He struggles to hold on to the car, but saves it, allowing Nickel to slide into third. The last laps click down with Loudoun pressuring
Stephenson, but not enough to pass the blue #1, as he takes the chequered. |
